Demogoguery at its finest

Not sure how many of you have been following the story in New York of the planned stadium for the New York Jets on the west side. It appears that Madison Square Gardens has decided to sue the Metropolitan Transit Authority because of claims that the bid process was rigged to favor the Jet's bid. Mayor Bloomberg has been a big proponent of the plans to build the stadium for the Jets and he weighed in today on this lawsuit.
"The mayor dismissed MSG's lawsuit as sour grapes, saying officials there are trying to protect their monopoly and they don't care who gets hurt. 'If you cant beat them, sue them, I guess, unfortunately, is the way some people go about it,' Bloomberg said Tuesday at a news conference."
I didn't think much of this until I read the following comments.
"If you stop this, you're going to stop the ability for literally tens of thousands of people short term, and hundreds of thousands of people long term, to be able to feed their families and send their kids to school and to share in the great American dream."

How in the world did this guy get elected? I'm not generally one to question motives but this is demogoguery, plain and simple.
